The White House just made a move that could reshape America's power grid...
Earlier this month, it nominated David LaCerte to join the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission ("FERC").
FERC is one of the most opaque but powerful agencies in the U.S. government. It's the primary gatekeeper for pipelines, transmission lines, and power-plant expansions.
Said another way, if confirmed, LaCerte will help lead an agency that decides whether energy projects live or die.
FERC's backlog has grown so severe that even the most essential projects are getting stonewalled. That includes projects needed to power the AI revolution.
But LaCerte's arrival could mark a turning point. He's part of Project 2025... a controversial, sweeping plan to "dismantle the administrative state."
And he's being installed to do exactly that.
AI is eating power faster than we can handle...
Data centers are forecast to use more than 9% of U.S. electricity by 2030. That's up from just 3% a few years ago. And it's more than double the power used by the entire U.S. chemical industry.
But our grid isn't keeping up. Developers face yearslong delays just to connect new power plants and substations. In Northern Virginia, the country's data-center capital, wait times for new interconnections stretch up to seven years.
We mentioned last Friday that FERC denied a key energy permit for one of Amazon's (AMZN) proposed facilities. The site would have supplied 960 megawatts of power... enough to run nearly one million homes.
And this isn't a one-off issue. The agency outright rejected another plan by the Midcontinent Independent System Operator that would fast-track interconnections.
Every major transmission upgrade and energy-export project has to go through the agency. One decision from a five-member commission can stall tens of billions of dollars in development.
But LaCerte's appointment could mean big changes. As a contributor to Project 2025 – a 920-page road map to overhaul the executive branch – he's championing policies to sunset any "unjustified" energy regulations.
His goals also line up with Executive Order 14270, which goes into effect in September. The order calls for automatic expiration of many federal rules, including those that have held up energy projects for years.
After years of red tape, the coming political shift could soon reset America's power markets...
If LaCerte is confirmed, the Republican side at FERC would gain a 3-2 majority.
He'll likely push through the Project 2025 playbook. We could soon see a flood of long-stalled energy developments finally getting the green light.
This would be a game changer for utilities and transmission enablers... especially those with ready-to-go projects.
Construction and engineering firms, natural gas producers, and grid equipment suppliers could also ride the surge in demand.

Joel Litman

P.S. Energy players across the board could soon benefit from the coming changes. But the biggest gains will come from the smallest stocks of all...
My team and I are tracking four microcaps with enormous upside potential as this story plays out. One is already up 22% since we recommended it earlier this month. And as we go to press, it's still trading below our recommended "buy" price.
